the 1965 ford Mustang
original freedom to gallop with the wind..!
For the next few years road testing and design work continued on the project that would eventually become an American car built tighter with better handling, better weight distribution, better seating comfort for two or four, and the key to making this car a success was to give it great build quality, an irresistible persona , make it fast, make it inexpensive and make it hot...!
Work continued for about three years and in late February of 1964, the Ford Motor Company dropped dessert on the table by announcing that on April 17, 1964, just a little over a month away, the 1965 mustang would hit the Worlds Fair and Ford showrooms, and the wild horses would be set free..!
Mustang could be had in fastback, hardtop, or a convertible version. Talk about choices.
The sales pace didn't stop and Dearborn was working at a feverish pace trying to keep up with America and the Worlds lust and demands for the First Pony Car.
Enter my man, the now late Carroll Shelby. Carroll took the Ford Mustang after receiving approval from Mr. Iacocca, and worked his magic, turning the original Mustang Fastback into the Shelby Mustang Fastback GT 350. The snake, as you have probable heard, was sinister. It could run with the Stallions from Europe and still be back to the stable in time for a good bath and a barley and oat breakfast by morning.
