the pontiac G6
You get a car, you get a car, you get a car, you get a car. Everybody gets a car!
"The Pontiac G6 Show Car"
A new way of thinking as we continue to build excitement..!!
(no more lower body cladding.)
"The Soft and functional interior of the Showcar is what the press was looking for.."
"Drats..! Fooled again..!
The car was original enough, but needed a great sales pitch in order to help it get off the ground.
Into the fray steps powerhouse Media Mogul Oprah Winfrey..
"You tole Haahpoe to beat me..!!"
Pontiac gave the Oprah Winfrey Show nearly 300 brand new G6's, and on September 13, 2004, Oprah Winfrey made the biggest sales pitch for any car ever made by giving each of her audience members a new G6.
With a base price of just over $19,000, the G6 came standard with anti-lock brakes, traction control, tilt/ telescopic steering, AC, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, CD player, adjustable pedals and On-Star and 17in wheels.
Other options included front and side impact airbags, remote start, leather, heated seats, paneled glass sunroof, (ingenious at the time), and a 6 disc CD Changer, a six speed automatic transmission, 18inch wheels and a 6 speed manual, (GTP).
Dumbing down the car with cheap plastic showed me that GM still wasn't serious about product management. The car did sell very well for its niche', but as far as going after the Germans with a similar grille, It wasn't to be. Much more thought needed to go into the product line if this were to be accomplished.
Another reason was because of the very unique sunroof.
Other versions of the G6 soon followed suit..
A Coupe, a more aggressive Sedan, and a convertible all joined the foray giving customers oodles of choices to chose from. There was even a version that looked like it would be right at home in Darth Vaders Garage...
In 2008 with the rest of the globe crumbling from a decade of greed, an unwillingness to change business practices, and poor decisions run a-muck, GM (stupidly if you ask me), decided to give Pontiac the axe and with the swath of a pen, in 2009 Pontiac was laid quietly to rest as the last G6 left the factory headed for discounts and rebates unknown.
(Problems Areas: brakes and rotors, wheel bearings are the main complaint of the owners.)
Summation: The thought is still crazy that the, Excitement Division had to meet it's maker because of stupid corporate decisions that were made to cheapen the cars themselves, dumb down the customers and squeeze out more profits for the top brass by lowering quality.. Just a shame those college educated business idiots couldn't see past the bean-counters because Pontiac is now down to zero sales and zero net profit..!
Thank you Oprah, and thanks for the memories Pontiac... Now close the coffin..!
