The fast and the frugal..? Well, kinda...
Now just like in the 80's, the Mustang was a car available with a suit for all types. From the base Mustang with it's notch-back and full trunk, the hatchback GT with it's V8, and the turbo-charged and most futuristic looking of the bunch, the SVO. (Created by Fords Special Vehicle Operations)
Making every attempt to push the envelop with the next pony car, as automobile emissions was being curtailed by the feds, the Ford Motor Company made sure not to lose sales of the popular mustang by offering a somewhat frugal turbocharged four cylinder with as much power and torque as the V8, but lighter and more technically advanced in every aspect..
In three wild flavors of horses
As you can see there were no airbags in the steering wheel back in those days. Options included cruise control, hand pumped lumbar seats, a fuel switch that allowed the driver to dial in performance depending on the fuel used and the level of octane. Other options were power door locks, power windows and a premium sound system with cassette..
Have you drive a ford lately..??
Whatever your need though, the Mustang SVO was just one of those cars that would fit the build.. From a quick trip to the grocery store, a trip upstate or the occasional can of whoop-ass, this classic piece of machinery got the job done without much fan fare, fuss quibble or complaint. Thanks for the memories and special shout out to Fords Special Vehicle Operations and we look forward to the return of a new turbo four Pony with the new and upcoming Mustang for 2015 from Ford.. Thanks for checking out this months blast from the Past. Till next time, this is Dre' at autoFrenzy.net reminding you to keep your hands on the wheel, and your feet on the gas.... Deuces..!!
