2012 Hyundai Veloster
No other Car company has had such a steady stream of hits as the Korean Car Company, Hyundai. Talk about a company that has had to improve not just because it wanted to but because it had to. Lets go back a little bit.. I can clearly remember 1992 when a buddy of mine who lived in Houston Texas decided to go down to the local Hyundai Dealership and buy himself one of the company's new cars called the Sonata. Fast forward two months. He has to take the car back for brake problems. Two months later, he has idling issues. After six months of ownership with this new car, the rear left window is stuck and the right one sputters as it goes down and back up. A few days later he takes it back to the Hyundai Dealership and they have to replace the entire electrical system, wires and all due to a possible fire hazard. This car spent as much time in the shop as I did in the gym. But it wasn't just the Sonata, oh no.. Remember the Scoop..? How bout the Excel..? Yup, it's probable better that we do forget em.
Right now there is absolutely no denying that the Hyundai company is as hot as fire. They have come up from the bottom of the heap like the rise of the Phoenix, and for this month, autoFrenzy has chosen the Smoking Hyundai Veloster. The tester we had an opportunity to drive was a burnt orange six speed manual base model, but as usual with Hyundai even for a near base you are gonna get your money's worth, as well as the next mans. We would like to thank Jay Jordan, email@example.com Sales Consultant at Thornton Road Hyundai. Now to start with, we could call this nearly base car many things, but base is not one of them. There are so many gizmos and gadgets in this comfortable little car that you need not to even get out of it in order to get the work done in your office. Downloadable App's, blue-tooth, his and hers cell phone sockets, Mp3 connect, proximity connect (Bluelink) can call you if your car is moved, stolen, vandalized or by damaged. It can be programmed to top out at any speed you program into it (probable for the 16yr old in the house that has just gotten his/her license and may just want to show out). Even for a near base model with all of the electronics, at $18,500 this car comes correct! Not included on our tester was keyless entry, keyless start, navigation and a sunroof. That would have topped it out at about $22,500 with all of that and an automatic. The ride is smooth and quiet and the handling is pretty precise. Yes Virginia, and this is a Hyundai.! There is one door on the drivers side and two on the passengers. Quite unique. We noticed no squeaks or rattles. The car was as quiet as a church mouse during Sunday Service and as tight as a tank. It has ample space for luggage and groceries, just don't get too overzealous. If you do need a bit more space, the rear seats do split. The stick feels great, if not a little grabby. The brakes also take some getting used too. Also grabby for our taste but it will stop on a dime. I am 6ft so the back seat room came up a little short for me. I clumsily got back there and sat as I found my head in the headliner. The sloping roof makes for not so much head space in the back, (not good for tall riders on streets with potholes or long trips.) Now this car looks fast but its not. Now that's not to say that its slow because it's not that either. The engine is built to give max horsepower and max fuel economy, which when combined comes in about 36mpg.. Worth buying..? Hmmm.. Great warranty..? Hmmm.. Competent, quiet, gadgets galore, frugal, different, very original and sporty..? Hmmm.. The Answer to all of these questions is a resounding Yes!
As we said before, this isn't the fastest car in the world but it's great for the money.. Now if you need this car with a jet pack, just wait, because in less than a year we hear Hyundai will introduce a turbo model with a totally different front facia, the same road carving ability, and as we understand, it will be nearly as frugal as the base. Think you may want a test drive..? Go see our friends at Thornton Road Hyundai in Austell GA., and ask for Jay. Thanks again for checking out at autoFrenzy.net and till next time, keep your hands on the wheel and your feet on the gas..!
