Did somebody say bang for the buck ..??
We'll It's almost the same, only different..
From the rear, the new car is sportier, the tail lamps are smaller with LED's, the rear facia has a better and more up to date design with dual tailpipes (RT), and the car looks more hunkered down. The front facia has also been updated and is a bit wider, due to it's newly flared nostrils. It rides, turns, handles, and feels much better than the old car and is surprisingly quick and frugal. In our drive from Ft. Lauderdale to Miami, up to Orlando, down to the Florida Keys and then back to Ft. Lauderdale with Lord only knows how many stops in between, the Avenger was surprisingly stingy with fuel. Good thing too, as we encountered gas prices that were $5 plus dollars per gallon in Orlando. (You Greedy price gouging Bastards.!) In the four cylinder we experienced nearly 34mpg on the flat Florida highways. The car was smooth and pretty powerful for a four cylinder, especially with all of the luggage that we were carrying in the large cavernous trunk, but it made a long trip through high winds, heavy rain and the occasional Florida sunshine bearable, comfortable and tolerable.
The car comes in three flavors. The SE, the STX, and the RT, the latter being the sportier and more costly of the three. SE and STX versions come with standard 17in wheels and the RT comes with 18's. Chrysler also has a new six speed transmission that couldn't have gotten here in fast enough. (More Bad) most of the complaints relative to the old car were about the four speed transmission. Just thank God its outta here. Hallelujah..!
The Chrysler group seems to be on a relentless path to all things reliable and they would have to be as the history of the Dodge Avenger before the "New Dodge" was as spotted as a Dalmation. 2007- 2010 Recalls included: Electrical system, wiring harness, problems with engine cooling, fuel tank system, latches and locks, airbags, seat position sensors, etc.. Anyway, you catch my drift as to why Chrysler is working overtime on reliability, as they have quite a lot of making up to do. And it looks like it's working. This car had it's rework in late 2010 and there have been no reported problems, complaints or recalls yet. Yea!
Now, we don't do comparisons here at autoFrenzy.net we just want to give you the meat of it. Though this car has had a grip of problems with quality and control before the re-work, this automobile now is fast, fun, frugal, fuel efficient and with all of the options that come standard, as well as all of the stuff that you can order, at a base price of just over $19,000, $22,750 midway, and 27,540 maxed out V6 and a grip of interior/exterior goodies. I think that this is like the revamp of the Six Million Dollar Man. (We can rebuild him, we have the technology, we can make him better than he was before, better, stronger, faster and more fuel efficient..) Bottom line, go drive it, and if you like the New Avenger as I did, get it, wash it, fill it up, throw the wife in the comfy front seat, the kids and the dog in the back, (not on the roof.., WOOF, WOOF.!) and drive the brakes off of it..! In the meantime a word of caution: DO NOT think that you are getting a bargain by buying the 2007-2010 model. (Steer Clear) as you will be asking for trouble and constantly seeing your Chrysler Dealer and trying to get a Rental to get to work.. If you feel like you need or want an Avenger, do yourself a favor and spend the extra money for the new one. You may be glad you did... Enjoyable Trip, Enjoyable car. Great Re-do Chrysler! Oooh, and that new six is absolutely maddening! Whowouldathunkit!!
The New Dodge.....
