Cadillac builds a sports sedan
....and the world took note
The spawning of a legend
Making a car that appeals to current Euro-shoppers but being careful not alienate current customers would require some new thinking on the part of Cadillac Motor company.
The operation of the car was smooth. It moved off the line with authority and mechanically was a direct rival from anything from across the ponds. The STS was also a very good-looking automobile. It often made people who never considered buying a Cadillac before at least take a second look. The Cadillac STS also garnered rave reviews from the automotive press and was a runaway sales hit, not only hitting it big for Cadillac, but also swinging the pendulum in a new direction for the automotive maker as they were making a serious attempt to do away with the floaty suspensions, leather top cladding, large fat tires, white walls and tail fins. This would prove to be very important if Cadillac wanted to sell this car in Europe, as it did.
The 1993 Cadillac STS Euro spec (sold in Germany)
Though not sold in the capacity of BMWs, Mercedes Benz or Audis, Cadillac worked hard at developing a product and attempting to reclaim its title as "The standard of the world".
Comfortable power heated seats made long trips a snap.
...and the use of great bright-work in the cabin made Cadillac a world class player in the interior department.

The STS was not without it's faults..
The Northstar System...?
The 1992 STS was the beginning of Cadillac's change to a more conservative and Euro design and it went on to spawn and evolve two more body changes including the rare Supercharged STS V-series in 2005, the most powerful car Cadillac had ever built at that time.
Though the last STS left the Factory in may of 2011, Cadillac now sits atop of the world as a carmaker, thanks to the development of this car and if one thing has been shown since it's introduction it is that there is no looking back, only full steam ahead..
If you are in the market for the 1992-1997 STS..? Do yourself a favor and do your best to get the early 4.9 L engine, and if you decide that you just have to have the Northstar, just make sure that you have one more thing on hand... Some spare change and a good mechanic..!
