The 1990 Lincoln Towncar
Bigger is better was the American way
For the 1990 Lincoln Towncar, it damn sure was.. Starting with a smooth aerodynamic design. Moving away from the angular shapes that we were used to from the 1989 Towncar, Lincoln literally took this silk boxcar into a whole new plane..!
Other notable options that made the Towncar overly luxurious and remarkable was Lincoln's automatic climate control, power windows, power seats, power mirrors, digital speedometer, (quite fun and futuristic for the times), auto dimming rear-view mirror, dual air bags for driver and passenger, Lincoln's new rear end air spring suspension, automatic load leveling, Lincoln's optional cold-weather package which added goldleaf particles in the windshield that when activated could quickly clear snow and frost from the windshield on extra cold mornings, or in extra cold places... The car was rear wheel drive which made for okay handling for car of this size.. It could cruise the Boulevard or sail down the highway comfortably for hours at a time while keeping both you and your passengers in ultimate comfort..
Never had I ever heard terms in regards to an American luxury car that literally made people go gaga at the sight of it. Some dreamers even went as far as to say that this was indeed their dream car and if given the opportunity to pick the new Lincoln Towncar over any other brand (foreign or domestic) the Lincoln Towncar, 9 times out of 10 would win hands down..
Beauty in a beast
It seemed that would've been enough but no.. As consumers continue to purchase the new Lincoln Towncar in droves, it seemed that not only had the American public taken notice, but so did many magazines and TV shows.. Taken notice so much that in 1990 Lincoln received the coveted Motortrend Car of the Year Award for this big plush behemoth..
Though the Lincoln town car is no longer being built, here is a little history on the Velvet Beast that was...
If all this is checked and cleared, then congratulations.. You got yourself a new classic, and if you're looking around after making your big purchase you'll see that you are probably in a lot of good company as there are still a lot of these cars on the road..
